Kembara Amsterdam 15 – Dam Square

Assallammualaikum semua..

Semak kepala tengok file2 berterabur atas meja ni.. huhu..

© Dutchamsterdaml.nl — Dam Square is Amsterdam’s best-known square, and it is a handy central location from which to explore the medieval city centre.

What to see at Dam Square

  • Royal Palace When it was completed this neoclassical building was referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World, but you’ll have to go inside to see why someone would think that.  Though the outside doesn’t promise much — in part because the once white sandstone facade has over the centuries taken on a grey/brownish appearance — inside you’ll be treated to opulent beauty.  The building started out in 1655 as Amsterdam’s City Hall, but was re-purposed as a palace in 1808 by the brother of Napoleon. A definite must-see
  • Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) This 15th century gothic building is the site of Royal coronations and weddings, as well as art exhibitions, but not of church services.
  • National Monument Erected in 1956 to memorialize the victims of World War II.  Visitors often marvel at the fact that people are allowed to sit all around the monument, but the Dutch government says that’s simply a reflection of the freedom we enjoy.
  • Madame Tussauds In our opinion visiting this branch of the famous wax museum is one of those things not to do in Amsterdam.  It’s expensive and often quite crowded.  If you do go, you’ll enjoy a great panoramic view of Dam Square and Damrak from the round picture window at the top floor.

There are several other monumental buildings, a few cafes, and some shops.

The building with the ugly façade — next to Bijenkorf — is an office complex designed by Cees Dam.  The architect is also known as the designer of the Stopera — the monstrosity that serves as combination city hall/opera building — as well as the Options Exchange building at Rokin.

Too much to share, but too little time to spare!

Assallammualaikum semua!

Salam Aidiladha!! Semoga anda semua sihat2 & ceria la hendaknya.. rindu hati bukan kepalang nak update blog ni, tapi masa sangatlah limited.. Kerja di tempat baru ni memang menuntut banyak kesabaran serta masa.. saya tak berpeluang nak update blog setiap hari macam dulu, tak sempat nak edit gambar, nak bergossip2, nak melalut2 kat blog, sungguh, saya rindu pada masa2 senggang satu masa dulu!

Owh, saya juga rindu nak melawat blog teman2 – paling dirindui blog Jari Manis, blog Supermeng Malaya, blog En Khairul Abdullah (mujur ada FB, dapat la saya luangkan masa sekejap tengok perkembangan terbaru En Khairul), blog Time Traveller Afif & blog Salam 2 Benua.. Dilanda emosi pulak pagi2 ni mengingatkan teman2 alam maya yang dah lama tak saya kunjungi ni, bukan tak sudi, tapi tak sempat.. namun sentiasa disebut dalam hati!!

Setelah 2 bulan berada di tempat baru, I have to admit that the grass alwasy looks greener on the other side, or maybe its just me, coz i still have a lot to learn, a lot to pick up, a lot to digest, so its a bit too depressing for me.. the fact that i have to leave my son at the nursery as early as 7am, rushing for the train to ampang park, then juggling with work here and there, then rush again for the train, going thru the traffic jem is no fun at all.. But this is the path that i have taken, the one that i’ve decided to travel, so i must go thru it.. its juts like a journey – i’ve chosen the destination, bought the tickets, and now i must travel within the destination, to embrace the culture, to learn & love the people, to belnd in & keep a positive attitude all the way long, maybe till the time i decided to look for another destination, who knows 🙂

I still owe my readers a few posts about the experience in Amsterdam, Insya-Allah, when time permits, I’ll post the stories here.. Till then, love u all & thanks for visiting this blog now & then.. 🙂

xoxo
